About Mudskippers Pottery
Mudskippers Pottery is a family run professional ceramics studio that specializes in after school education. At Mudskippers Pottery we are passionate about teaching affordable ceramics and art education. We work closely with enrichment management companies and PTAs/PTOs to teach our classes across DC, Maryland and Virginia.
Our faculty is comprised of artists and parents which creates a unique staff that truly understands the needs of teaching art to children. We take great pride in our carefully curated art history lessons that accompany each project. Our art history lessons ensure that your students are learning new things each class. Since many of our teachers are parents, we understand how expensive enrichment classes can be. We do everything we can to ensure that we are teaching at the lowest possible tuition prices. All kids deserve a chance to play with clay!
Mission Statement
Mudskippers Pottery’s mission is to support our students and teachers by creating opportunities for lifelong learning with ceramic arts. We strive to offer everyone inspiration as well as technical instruction. We are a community based studio created to provide an inclusive environment for artists of all levels. We are passionate about providing affordable ceramics education. At Mudskippers Pottery, we are enriching our communities with an explosion of creativity!
Mrs. E
After Mrs. E graduated with a degree in ceramics she spent years working as an independent artist. Tired of the hustle she took some time off to start a family. Two years and three kids later (yes you read that correctly) she felt that artistic itch return. With a desire to spend time both at home with her children and in the studio, Mudskippers Pottery was born. Mrs. E loves children and teaching them all about her passion for pottery. Sadly these days she spends most of her time in the Mudskippers Pottery office instead of in the classroom!
Ms. D
Ms. D has been teaching with Mudskippers for four years now. When she is not teaching pottery, she enjoys spending time with her three grandchildren on her farm. Ms. D also spends a lot of her time volunteering with several local non-profit organizations.
Mr. C
Mr. C is the studio’s kiln technician and substitute teacher. He is Mudskippers Pottery’s all around fixer. If your pottery breaks or the kiln stops working, he’s the one to call!
Mrs. Jessica
Mrs. Jessica has always enjoyed working with her hands. As a child, she enjoyed sculpting miniature figures out of clay and taught herself to knit and crochet at a young age. She studied painting and printmaking at Savannah College of Art and Design. After college, she fell in love with the culinary industry and pursued a career as a chef for nearly a decade. After many long hours and late nights, she decided to leave the restaurant industry to spend more time with her husband and young son. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting, baking, and painting. She is excited she’s gone back to her creative roots to pass on her love of art to children as an instructor at Mudskippers Pottery!
Miss Laura K.
Miss Laura joins the team this year all the way from Hershey, Pennsylvania, and yes, she loves chocolate! After working in the healthcare and legal fields for 10 years, Miss Laura returned to college to earn a second degree. Once she earned her Art Education degree, Miss Laura realized how few Art positions were in her neck of the woods. 125 miles took her far from home, but landed her the best job on Earth, teaching Ceramics to the youth of NOVA!
Mrs. P
Mrs. P. is a self-taught artist, who has been painting since she was a little girl. She paints with both acrylics and watercolors, and generally considers herself to be an abstract artist, but she also paints landscapes and nature scenes. Her favorite painter is Vassily Kandinsky, who is also known for his abstract paintings and drawings. She studied Leisure Management & Tourism in College at the University of New Hampshire. While in college, she met and fell in love with Ed, her husband of almost 30 years. She has lived many place due to Ed’s Army career, including Hawaii, and was a stay at home mom raising two daughters during this time. When her youngest daughter started college two years ago she decided to get her teaching license in both Secondary English and Visual Art. She realized while she loved working with students and teaching them to create things and express themselves through art, teaching full time would not allow her to continue painting and working in ceramics herself. When she found Mudskippers Pottery she felt like she had found the perfect place for her, she could still teach and work with students and still have time to work as a studio artist.
Mrs. B
Mrs. B took ceramics classes when she was a kid and still has assorted clay snails and bowls tucked away to prove it! She is excited to be a part of Mudskippers and show her students that everyone can create beautiful art (even those of us who aren't traditionally "artistic"). In addition to teaching, Mrs. B works as a ghostwriter, helping people write and preserve their life stories. She lives with her wonderful husband and son--and their dog, Cricket, the best dog to ever wag a tail.
Miss Kiara
Miss Kiara is an artist, author and full time student at George Mason University. After two years of working in a preschool she was eager to combine her passions for art and teaching as well as accommodate her (sometimes painful) Leesburg to Fairfax commute- Mudskippers Pottery was the perfect fit! Miss Kiara is excited to begin a new year fostering children’s love of pottery!
Ms. Moss
Ms. Moss graduated from Jacksonville State University in 2015 with a Bachelors degree in child development. She moved to Maryland in 2015 and graduated at Washington Adventist University in 2018 with a Masters. She has worked in a daycare for 6 years doing arts and crafts and hands on projects with children. She loves teaching and learning new things.
Ms. R
Ms. R is a musician and artist originally from a town near Lake Erie. She recently graduated from a university with a degree in Violin Performance, and moved to Virginia just a little bit ago. She loves painting, drawing, and embroidery. She is always looking for an opportunity to create homemade gifts, cards, and other projects. She teaches violin and piano lessons, and performs on the violin in solo concerts, orchestras, and musicals. She loves books and movies, coffee and chocolate, exploring new places, and hanging out with her little black cat named Chevy.
Ms. LaTia
Ms. LaTia is a preschool teacher and self taught artist. She has been teaching and caring for children for six years and creating art for as long as she can remember. She loves all forms of art and it's her dream to share that love with as many creative minds as she can. She's super excited to get the opportunity to combine both her passions of teaching and creating art with Mudskippers and can't wait to get her hands muddy (LOL get it? Muddy because of the clay and it's Mudskipp---oh nevermind) In her spare time she enjoys making and laughing at corny jokes and spending time with her two year old son!
Mr. Seyyed
Mr. Seyyed (Pronounced Say-ed) graduated with his degree from George Mason University from the College of Education studying Human Development and Family Sciences, concentrating in early Childhood Education and Services. Mouth full no? Haha!
Seyyed was born into a large religious, ethnically diverse, and loving family filled with amazingly gifted young children and youth who were raised by even more amazing, talented, strong, inspiring, wise, and dedicated Mothers and Fathers, who do everything they can for their families and communities.
